Request a CSAIL account

Please Read First

This signup process is for new CSAIL members only. If you have previously been a user of CSAIL's computing infrastructure (or of its predecessors, LCS and AI), you should not use this method to get your account. You should instead get help from a system administrator (at the help desk, 32-276) to reactivate your old account.

If you are a new faculty member and you are not joining an existing research group, there are configuration changes we must make before you, your students, or any new staff can sign up. Please see the helpdesk as soon as possible or send an email request to help@csail.mit.edu so that these preparations can be made.

All of the questions below must be answered. The “help” links will open a new browser tab.

Otherwise, you may begin by selecting a login name. CSAIL login names may be up to 32 characters long, but for compatibility with legacy infrastructure we recommend that you limit yours to 8 characters. Login names must begin with a letter or a digit; subsequent characters may be letters, digits, hyphens, or underscores. Many people use their initials. Your login name will also be your permanent CSAIL email address, although you will have a chance to create aliases for yourself later.
